The Salk Institute is recruiting a new Assistant Professor, Dr. Christina Towers, to the Salk Cancer Center. In honor of the Conquering Cancer Initiative, the BioMed Realty Management Team is issuing a challenge match – they will match, dollar for dollar, up to $1M to support Towers’ recruitment and to support her research and that of the Salk Cancer Center. BioMed’s president and CEO, Tim Schoen, is a Salk trustee and chairman of the Institute’s Conquering Cancer Initiative Advisory Committee.
Salk’s Conquering Cancer Initiative is a scientific and philanthropic initiative to bring together scientists in collaboration to harness new strategies against six deadly cancers: pancreatic, ovarian, lung, colon, brain (glioblastoma) and breast. Together, Salk researchers will identify cancer’s vulnerabilities and find new methods to attack tumors and leave healthy tissues alone.
For eleven consecutive times, the Salk Institute has earned
the highest possible ranking from Charity Navigator, America’s largest
independent charity and nonprofit evaluator. This exceptional
designation is awarded to only 2 percent of over 10,000 nonprofits
evaluated, indicating the Institute’s exceptional fiscal accountability
and transparency.
